5 Stress Management Tips - Managing Your Stress on the Fly

Stress is often deemed an emotional reaction to a particular situation and while not always harmful, if not addressed, it can become very threatening to your mental health and well being. Therefore, finding ways to manage the feelings of stress is paramount to dealing with strain and the symptoms associated with it. Below are 5 quick ways you can manage and quickly deal with stressful situations.


1. Walk Away

The very first rule of effectively dealing with stress is to simply walk away form the thing that is causing you to become stressed. Recognizing what is causing your tension early on will aid you on how to manage that particular situation each and every time.

2. Manage your time more efficiently

Time management skills are imperative in your everyday life. When we lose track of time we also lose track of focus and allow our minds to wander. We begin to wonder the 'what-ifs' of missing deadlines or not meeting our responsibilities when what we should concentrate on is just being. Schedule yourself more effectively and the burden of 'what-ifs' will very soon be lifted.

3. Look at yourself differently

Do certain tasks or responsibilities leave you feeling stressed? Is having to look a certain way or act a certain way causing you to tense up and become anxious? These thoughts of negative self-worth are more troubling and yet easy to address.

Having someone to talk with is paramount to a life free from these types of self-doubt or self-pity and generally causes you to feel stress. Don't focus on the negative as this will lead you to start second guessing yourself.

You have everything you need to do what you need to do today. Everything else is out of your control so it is no use worrying about.


4. Just breathe

Have you noticed that when you tense up you find it somewhat difficult to breathe? At times you don't feel you can get enough air? This is due to a subconscious act that your body is using to defend itself against the physical effects of stress. Realize it for what it is and slow down. Find a quiet place to relax and take deep breaths while you imagine the things that make you feel good.

5. When all else fails, take a bath

When trying to find that quiet place to relax, most forget about a soothing bath as an effective way to manage stress. Most think of the park or the living room sofa or even sitting in their car.

But a nice warm soothing bath will generally ease your muscles into relaxing while your mind calms to the soothing effect of the heat. You may even put aromatherapy oil or bubbles bath in the tub, whatever you find most enjoyable.

Managing your own stress effectively requires you to be aware of what is going on around you and in you. The quicker you can pick up tension and worry when it starts to overcome you, the quicker you work on calming yourself down. Don't stress.
